Ty Jackson Pickups
LSL instruments is proud to present our new and long awaited line of custom guitar and bass pickups. Revival Pickups by LSL Instruments is a new line of signature pickups for artists in the CCM & P&W world. Why CCM and praise and worship? Because the industry is so vast and versatile ranging from contemporary gospel, southern rock, alternative, country, bluegrass, atmospheric, metal and more.
There is no one set of pickups that will work for everyone. So the challenge is to create signature sets of pickups for prominent artists to use in their touring guitars that needed “reviving” on the pickups. This way they could bring the guitar back into rotation and use them on tour and in the studio again.
Our goal on each set is to achieve exactly what the player was looking for both sonically and aesthetically by using different combinations of windings, magnets, potting methods and some neat, relic, bobbin and cover options. We look forward to the journey ahead!
We proudly present the Ty Jackson (Cece Winans) HSS Set!
Ty Jackson is a Grammy, Dove, and Stellar Award winning Producer, touring/session guitarist and songwriter. He is producer and co-musical director for prolific gospel music artist Cece Winans. Ty recently won Dove and Grammy awards for Gospel Worship Album of the Year for CeCe’s “More Than This”. Continuously honing his tone for multiple genres of music and playing styles requires that his pickups possess clear, articulate, expressive and soulful performance. We heard him out and came up with a recipe that was practical but dialed to meet the needs of such a diverse and dynamic player.
The defining factor for the clarity we were going for on this set was the use of Formvar wire. Most PAF’s are commonly wound 43 gauge plain enamel wire. This is the traditional sound we are all used to hearing. On Ty Jackson’s bridge humbucker we used 42 gauge Formvar wire which is thicker and produces a lower output. Formvar is best known for it’s use in most every major brand Strat single coil on the market. By using Formvar in a covered PAF humbucker, it gave it a well contained brighter tone that lends itself nicely to atmospheric music. When pushed, it is able to handle that highly sought after edge of break up sound and handles overdriven sounds beautifully. This is not a traditional approach to your standard PAF. The result was a nice clear multi use PAF style hum that sounds outstanding when coil taps are used.

Ty had this to say about his set!
One of my favorite guitars had noiseless pickups and a well known humbucker installed in the bridge position. I liked it a lot but I didn’t love it. I wanted a slightly hotter, fatter and edgier sounding pickup set. With this in mind, I needed to still have the characteristics of a classic Strat, with the ability to be able to rock out with a humbucker that was hotter but still smooth. My custom Revival Pickups set give me that. Those guys there got it right. My tone is fatter with a clarity that’s hard to put into words.
The dynamics that come with me switching from the pick to fingers blows my mind. From the fat clean sounds in all positions, to the searing lead tones I’m able to achieve, I’m HAPPY with this set and I believe everyone else that gets this set will feel the same.
My LSL guitar with my custom “TyJackson” HSS Revival set gets the job done and then some. The objective with this project was to have all I need and more in one guitar and we achieved that. I am very happy with how these came out, and I can’t wait to hear you guys create with them.
